About this university
International students
Students travel from some 130 countries around the world to study at the university. This means there is plenty of help and assistance on hand for those travelling from outside the UK. There is free advice and assistance with a range of immigration and visas issues as well as help for those with changing circumstances and those wishing to bring their family with them. There are also preparatory programs in place covering English language to assist those for whom it isn’t a first language. There is also assistance on hand with student accommodation and other matters relating to integrating with their new community as well as meeting up with others from their own cultural background. Aston Students’ Union is the representative of the students while they are attending the university. They provide a range of clubs and societies as well as Welfare Services and are partially funded by a number of commercial services. The Union Building covers some five floors and is at the heart of the main campus. These include a Union Shop offering snacks, stationary and other essentials as well as the B4 BAR, a great place for a drink as well as hosting numerous events during the year. There is also The Loft, a social study space on the 2nd floor of the building with an IT suite with Presentations. Clubs and societies come under the sub-heading of the Student Activities office, a small team who organise the 34 sports clubs and over 100 societies that students can get involved with during their time at Aston. There is also an Advice and Representation Centre (ARC) available to help students on a wide range of subject from academic matters to housing issues and even health and wellbeing topics.
