About this university
International students
There are various resources available to international students to make the transition to their new home easier and help them to get the most out of their new environment. There are International Student support pages filled with information ranging from immigration and visas information, financial services and even help with learning English, if this isn't a student's first language, through the Writing and Learning Centre. There is advice and help for those seeking to combine working with their studies as well as for those bringing their families with them while they are studying. There are also cultural and interest groups through the student union of interest to international students. The main Student Union facilities are on the Newton Park campus, though there are satellite branches on all campuses. The union operates a bar, cafe, a shop and gym as well as organising various annual events. These include a series of Fresher events as well as summer and winter balls. The union even has its own student card, called Student Zest that offers discounts to students across 100 local businesses. In addition, it operates some 20 sports societies, 10 sports clubs and 40 interest societies. There are sports facilities for everything from football and rugby to netball as well as fitness and wellbeing sports.
