Our Advanced Engineering Design MSc degree is described as ‘the doorway to industry’. It is for high-calibre, ambitious engineering or science graduates who wish to gain expertise in developing complex, multidisciplinary engineering design. The focus of the course is to provide you with advanced theory and skills to give you the essential expert knowledge needed for a career as an advanced designer, a design team leader or a researcher in innovative engineering design working in a computer assisted environment. You will learn how to design products requiring embedded intelligence and comprehensive engineering analysis, and will be taught by a team of highly regarded academics who will give you a thorough grounding in engineering design. Throughout your postgraduate engineering degree, you’ll have access to well-equipped design studios and computers for your exclusive use, and will benefit from the latest computer aided engineering software packages. The Design Experience project gives you experience of the whole design process in an industrial environment – from initial concept to final design and manufacture, and presentations, seminars, discussions and guest speakers from industry make this a special learning experience. Part of your course will also involve group projects, furthering your ability to work in a team. Recent group projects have included the design of electric vehicles, and the design of smart jigs and fixtures. We run regular industry liaison events and this is your chance not only to showcase your innovative engineering design projects, but also network with key engineering and technology professionals. Brunel’s Advanced Engineering Design MSc degree is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). It can be studied either full-time over one year, or part-time over two years.

About this university
Brunel has a range of support services designed specifically for international students including 40 staff dedicated to them. They are available for matters as diverse as finance, immigration and admissions assistance as well as general queries. Each student has a personal tutor network and there is support available for those to whom English isnâ€™t their first language. There is an orientation program operated for three days that 95% of international students said was immensely helpful for their adjustment as well as regular events, trips and workshops. The Union of Brunel Students is based within the main campus in the Hamilton Centre. It operates the Academy nightclub, a bar called Locoâ€™s and a Subway food outlet. There are various clubs and societies available for students to get involved with ranging from interest based to cultural or religion as well as sports and arts. The Social Kitchen is the main campus refectory for meals and snacks while The Mezz is a modern bar serving food from lunch until evening. One of the student run media projects is the radio station called Radio Brunel, recently relaunched as an internet only station. Sports range across traditional and modern and make use of the various facilities within the university include two large sports halls, a climbing wall, exercise studio, squash courts and the More Energy Fitness Centre. Even indoor cricket and archery facilities are found on campus. Brunel was one of the first universities in the UK to enter the Formula Student Engineering competition. This is an annual program run around the world where student compete in formula-style events in cars designed and manufactured by the students. Undergraduate and postgraduate students work on different areas of the project and the university has won a prize every year since it started in 1999.
