Description

You design the course that best suits your needs and career direction by choosing from our range of postgraduate modules.By taking a Masters degree in Computing you will be able to build on your undergraduate computing studies or work experience in the areas of your particular interest. As well as building on your existing computer skills and taking them to the next level, you will learn to develop a critical understanding and an analytical approach to your choice of specialist areas. With a strong emphasis on a digital business environments, we show you how to provide the best solutions for the company and the clients. Our aim is to prepare you to contribute relevant expertise within the interdisciplinary environments that characterise this sector. This programme is structured around three pathways as an inspiration for your programme.Specifically created to address the ever-increasing demand for technical web developers, the MSc Computing (Web Development) will convert students with no prior knowledge of computing into web developers in this intensive one year masters. We also offer the MSc Computing (User Experience) pathway which combines research, design and technological know-how, to help you develop next generations of systems and services.

Entry requirements

The entry requirement for this course is a bachelor (Honours) degree at a 2.2 or above, or equivalent. We look for applicants to have a background in any discipline in order to be eligible for the programme. We may also consider lesser qualifications if you have sufficient relevant work experience within the industry. If English is not your first language you should have an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no component below 5.5 (or an equivalent qualification).

The average international student body at Napier number in the region of 4000 and are from around 100 different countries. Prior to arriving in the city there is country specific information on the website covering not only the application process but also visas and immigration information. There is also help on hand with matters such as accommodation without the university and in the wider city. Further help and assistance is on hand for subjects such as healthcare, finance and bringing family members to the country or finding work while studying. The Napier Student’s Association is behind the organisation of various out of class activities as well as organising annual events, offering support and advice to its members and running social venues. The Independent Student Advice Service is one element to help with any problems that students encounter and is not part of the university so is independent. It offers help ranging from academic advice to health and well being matter, financial guidance and even disciplinary issues. NSA also organises a number of events known as Freshers Week where new students can be acquainted with the university and the city. There are also a host of clubs and societies to get involved with at the university. These range from sports clubs such as football and rugby to activities such as go-karting and snooker as well as interest and culture groups. Students also have the chance to start their own if they find a gap for their interest.
