Queen Mary University of London has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
OverviewThe course involves an extended (one-year) individual research project carried out as part of one of our established research groups, combined with selected taught modules. This programme offers students the chance to undertake an advanced masters programme through an extended research project.This programme is suitable for outstanding students who have an interest in advanced research-based study in one of our research specialisms: Computer Vision; Cognitive Science; Risk and Information Management (RIM); Computer Science Theory; Game AI; and Computational Creativitiy. The expectation is that every graduate from the degree will publish at least one conference paper as part of their research. It will give you solid theoretical and practical research competence in your chosen field of study and will enhance your employability. Successful completion of the programme may also provide a route to further study at doctoral level or for a research position in industry.This programme will:
- Give you a basis for further study.
- Allow you to specialize in an area of your choosing.
- Give you a free choice from all the modules available, which are suitable to your project.

Entry requirements
Applicants must have an honours degree (minimum 2.1) in a relevant subject. Students should identify in their application the relevant research group. Offers are subject to the agreement of a suitable research proposal. This programme requires ATAS clearance. Students who are not EEA or Swiss nationals may require ATAS clearance to undertake this course. The CAH3 code for this course is CAH11-01-01. Further information on ATAS can be found on our Advice and Counselling webpages. You should possess a good honours degree (minimum upper second class) in a relevant subject. In your application you should identify the relevant research group. Offers are subject to the agreement of a suitable research proposal. For international students we require English language qualifications IELTS 6.5, TOEFL score of 92 (internet based).

About this university
International students
Students travel to QMUL from some 150 countries around the world, creating a truly global community. Their website contains country specific information as well as information for students before they apply to the university. Once students are in London, there are various resources to help them adjust to their new life including a blog focusing on international students and their requirements. This is all run through the International Office who also offer help on matters such as immigration advice, scholarships and funding and help with accommodation during their stay. The Queen Mary Students’ Union (QMSU) is the heart of student life and is based in the newly refurbished Students’ Hub. It operates a range of services including a bar, café, shop and student media including a newspaper, magazine, radio station and TV station. Students can also use the facilities at the Student Central in Bloomsbury, 15 minutes away by tube, the former University of London Union. They also offer support and representation services for students as part of the National Union of Students (NUS). There are over 190 different societies and clubs on offer for students ranging from sports to theatre and everything in the middle. There are also a number of volunteering opportunities for those who wish to give something back to the community. There is a health and fitness centre called QMotion as well as various sports facilities and team take part in the BUCS leagues. A busy social calendar means there are plenty of performing arts opportunities for students and the Drapers Bar is one of the best entertainment venues in the country.
