The internet, which is based on telecommunications networks, has developed at an astounding rate, connecting people in ways that we could never have imagined. This programme prepares you for a career in telecommunications and its applications and combines in-depth coverage of the main technical aspects of telecommunications with advanced business modules. At the end of the programme you will be equipped with the skills needed for a wide range of jobs in the expanding telecommunications industry, with emphasis on those that are relevant to business/financial needs.
This programme will cover:
• Theory, principles, concepts and methodologies fundamental to the engineering of telecommunications networks.
• Current developments in the engineering of converged, all-packet, next generation networks, in particular within a range of research-led specialities concentrated around telecommunications networking.
• The role of business processes in engineering, including the commercial, societal and legal processes; moral and ethical issues including professional conduct and intellectual property.
The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London is internationally recognised for its pioneering and ground-breaking research, and innovative public engagement programme. We have a long history of successfully offering postgraduate programmes in Telecommunications and in Wireless Networks. We have recruited staff who are international experts in the fields of converged all-IP networks with particular knowledge in modelling, measurements and QoE, in middleware and in wireless networking.
You should have a 2nd-Class degree or above (good 2:1 minimum for Industrial Experience option) or equivalent in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline. Unrelated degrees will be considered if substantial equivalent industrial experience is shown. For international students whose 1st language is not English, we require English language qualifications IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 92 (internet based) or equivalent qualification.

About this university
Students travel to QMUL from some 150 countries around the world, creating a truly global community. Their website contains country specific information as well as information for students before they apply to the university. Once students are in London, there are various resources to help them adjust to their new life including a blog focusing on international students and their requirements. This is all run through the International Office who also offer help on matters such as immigration advice, scholarships and funding and help with accommodation during their stay. The Queen Mary Studentsâ€™ Union (QMSU) is the heart of student life and is based in the newly refurbished Studentsâ€™ Hub. It operates a range of services including a bar, cafÃ©, shop and student media including a newspaper, magazine, radio station and TV station. Students can also use the facilities at the Student Central in Bloomsbury, 15 minutes away by tube, the former University of London Union. They also offer support and representation services for students as part of the National Union of Students (NUS). There are over 190 different societies and clubs on offer for students ranging from sports to theatre and everything in the middle. There are also a number of volunteering opportunities for those who wish to give something back to the community. There is a health and fitness centre called QMotion as well as various sports facilities and team take part in the BUCS leagues. A busy social calendar means there are plenty of performing arts opportunities for students and the Drapers Bar is one of the best entertainment venues in the country.
