The School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences trains ~250 postgraduate research students undertaking PhD, MD and MPhil degrees in Cancer Research and Cell Biology, Experimental Medicine, Public Health and Medical Education. Its diverse postgraduate student population comprises both basic and clinical scientists from across the globe engaged in wide-ranging research projects spanning the breadth of the School's research portfolio from bioinformatics through molecular and cell biology to clinical trials.Please note that we can only support projects which fit within our main research themes of Experimental Medicine, Cancer Research and Cell Biology, Medical Education, and Public Health.The partnership with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences provides opportunity to study in the USA. This 4-year Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) provides students the opportunity to undertake a postgraduate taught programme in Year 1 at QUB, followed by a PhD at NCI in Years 2-4.

There are some 1200 international students attend the university each year from over 80 countries around the world. Queen's is one of the few to have a dedicated facility for international students, the International and Postgraduate Centre (I&PSC) which forms a comprehensive and proactive support infrastructure for international students. This includes a range of advice and guidance as well as providing information to help those from outside the UK make the most of their time in the country. The heart of student life is the Students Union at Queen's or QUBSU, with its main building opposite the Lanyon Building on University Road. Students are automatically members, making it one of the largest unions in the UK and it provides a range of different services. There is full-time staff available to help with advice matters such as money and welfare as well services such as a shop, canteen and coffee shop. There are four bars in the building, Mandela Hall being the largest. There are 50 sporting clubs and another 100 non-sporting clubs for students to participate in. The oldest is the Literary and Scientific Society, established in 1850 by Edwin Lawrence Godkin. The Dragonslayers Gaming Society holds one of the largest gaming conventions in Ireland, Q-Con, in June each year while the Mountaineering Club has produced three Everest summiteers including Ireland's first, Dawson Stelfox. One of the most successful sporting clubs is the Queen's Boat Club while the Gaelic Football team has won several trophies.
