Description
This pharmacist independent prescriber course will prepare you to achieve the relevant learning outcomes required by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) to be eligible to apply for annotation as a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber. The module is structured around GPhC Standards and the Competency Framework for all Prescribers. These support Pharmacist Prescribers to deliver safe and effective care. The skills and knowledge you will gain will enable you to make a difference to patients’ lives and play an important role in the future of pharmacist independent prescribing.

Entry requirements
All candidates must meet the following requirements: Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Demonstrate how they reflect on their own performance and take responsibility for their own Continuing Professional Development. Have a designated medical practitioner who has agreed to supervise the period of learning in practice. Have at least two years appropriate patient orientated experience practising in a hospital, community or primary care setting following their pre-registration year. Have identified an area of clinical practice and need in which to develop their prescribing skills. Have up-to-date clinical, pharmacological and pharmaceutical knowledge relevant to their intended area of prescribing practice. Demonstrate how they will develop their own networks for support, reflection and learning, including prescribers from other professions. The Designated Medical Practitioner must be able to confirm that they: Have had at least 3 years medical, treatment and prescribing responsibility for a group of patients in the relevant field of practice. Work within a GP Practice OR are a specialist registrar, clinical assistant or a consultant within an NHS Trust or other NHS employer. Have some experience or training in teaching and/or supervision in practice. Agree to provide supervision, support and shadowing opportunities and are familiar with the requirements of the programme.

About this university
International students
Students travel from around 130 countries to study at the university and there is plenty of help and advice on offer for them. This starts with assistance in applying to the university and country specific information to pre-arrival advice. Once in Aberdeen there is career advice services, visas and immigration information as well as courses to help those who don’t speak English as a first language. There is also help with accommodation issues and finding the right place to live during studies. The Student Association is responsible for the clubs and societies within the university and are based in a building near the Administrative Building in the city centre. There are some 40 different societies available as well as another 32 sports clubs. Student media includes a magazine published every two months, a radio station and a TV station operating via YouTube. Sports facilities on campus include a 25m pool, various gym facilities and a large sports halls. There are a variety of fitness classes and physiotherapy options available in addition to the sports clubs. The association is also responsible for organising the Freshers Fayre held every September, a great place for students to get a feel for the university and for what they want to do outside the classroom.
