Description

Enhance your CV, hone your knowledge, and explore the topics of rules and treaties, negotiating, and contract agreements with our International Commercial Law postgraduate degree. Our top 5 UK ranking (Complete University Guide 2019) law school offers a comprehensive range of courses that careful combine both the academic theory with the professional skills that you’ll need to operate successfully in the field. This programme provides the perfect opportunity for you to mould your studies and specialise in the complex but rewarding area of International Commercial Law. With a comprehensive range of courses combining theory and practical professional skills, you’ll be guided by our team of world-class experts. The last 50 years have shown high growth in the field of international commerce, with trade being particularly prominent as the powerhouse behind legal development. Due to the introduction of the internet, international transactions are now so common that people barely realise they are conducting them, whilst at the other end of the scale, multinational companies conduct million, even billion pound transactions. International commercial law is now relied upon more than ever to support these transactions and provide protection where necessary, making this subject more in demand than ever before. In contrast to the LLM International Commercial Law with Dissertation, the LLM International Commercial Law with Professional Skills offers students the opportunity to develop key practical skills in arbitration rather than research skills through the writing and submission of a thesis. Students on this programme undertake an intensive summer school programme, followed by a simulated practical exercise and submission of an extended piece of writing. The School has Recognised Course Provider (RCP) status from the prestigious Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) in connection with this programme. Students who successfully complete this programme are thus exempt from some or all of the academic requirements for Membership of the CIArb.

About this university

International students

For students travelling from outside the UK, the International Student Advisors are available to help guide them on a range of issues. This can range from immigration and visas information, non-academic guidance regarding life in the country as well as help on financial matters. They are based within the Student Advice and Support Office and there are also various pages on the website to help with confidential advice and guidance. Students are represented by the Aberdeen University Students' Association (AUSA). It does not operate a traditional students' union arrangement but does operate The Hub, a dining and social centre created in the former central refectory after a refurbishment. There are some 100 clubs and societies for students to get involved with. The AUSA organises these and among them is the Aberdeen University Debater, the oldest organisation founded in 1848. There is also a student newspaper and numerous other arts and media opportunities. Another notable organisation is the Aberdeen Future Fund, a charity that seeks positive relationships from alumni of the university with current students to help prepare for their future. Sports are organised by the Aberdeen University Sports Union and make use of the various facilities around the sites including the fields to the rear of King's College and the Aberdeen Sports Village.
