Develop the skills to become an environmental design specialist and create buildings that combine sustainability with comfortable living.Our course brings together architectural design and engineering so you can create spaces that are practical and sustainable as well as beautiful. You'll learn how to design buildings with low-carbon footprints and a focus on comfortable and healthy living. There is a need for trained professionals who know how to reduce the environmental impact of construction. We'll help you develop your design and technical skills throughout the course to meet this need. You'll apply engineering principles and your understanding of how people use buildings to come up with building design solutions. The new concepts and technologies you'll explore will help you graduate with the skills to develop sustainable building strategies.We also give you the opportunity to take a five-day intensive course in Passivhaus design. This trains you to become a qualified Passivhaus designer or consultant. There is an extra cost for taking this course.Learn from experts in the fieldBased in our Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering, you'll learn from academics with expertise in the effects of climate change on the built infrastructure and the need for sustainable development. Their international collaborations and research activity feed into our teaching and contribute to your learning experience. Our research was ranked 1st in the UK in the Architecture and the Built Environment submission in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.Use specialist facilitiesWe have a range of facilities to support your studies including environmental monitoring facilities and an artificial sky with light meters. You'll also have access to specialist computer and software facilities for environmental modelling. Our laboratories contain equipment that exceed industry standards.Start your future hereOur course prepares you for a career in industry, research or academia by giving you the knowledge to make a valuable contribution to sustainable development. We work with industry partners to make sure that your studies reflect good practice in environmental design. A first or strong second class UK honours degree or internationally recognised equivalent in Architecture or engineering-related subject. Language requirements: IELTS 7.0 (at least 6.5 in each of the four components).

About this university
When attending the university from outside the UK, there is a variety of help and assistance available to students. This starts from the application process and goes right through the time spent at the university. There is practical help including how to accept the offer to attend the university and organising legal paperwork such as visas and immigration papers. There is also help with English language skills for those who donâ€™t speak the language and an international induction program to assist with integration within the city and area. There is even help with accommodation eligibility and student funding where needed as well as an airport collection service. The Student Union is recognised as one of the top organisations of its kind in the country and runs over 100 clubs from sports to arts, cultural and interest to faith societies. Notable among these are the Bath RAG, which raises money for local charities; the Arts Society that includes theatre, musicals, dance and other performance arts and three student media outlets. Sport plays a very important part of student life at the university and the sports are organised by TeamBath. It has one of the best sports facilities in the UK spread over three locations with two on Claverton Down and the third a few miles away in Combe Down. Facilities rank from fitness suites, squash courts, athletics tracks, basketball and badminton courts as well as centres for sports medicine and science.
