Advance your knowledge of civil engineering and specialise in innovative and sustainable materials for structural applications.Our master's degree is unique in the UK for the breadth of materials and sustainable construction methods it introduces you to. You'll explore renewable and low-carbon engineering materials that are key to infrastructural development worldwide.Focusing on sustainability, you'll learn how to use materials and design to enhance our built environment. You'll develop an in-depth understanding of the behaviour of structural materials and their characteristics. Our laboratories and workshops contain machinery and equipment that meet industry standards. These include concrete, timber, advanced materials, and geomaterials laboratories. You'll also have access to specialist computer and teaching facilities. Our links with the BRE mean that you could have the opportunity to use their facilities through project work.Start your future hereIf you want to pursue a career as a civil or structural engineer or go further as a researcher or academic, our course equips you to take the next step. We work with industrial partners to make sure that you develop the practical and theoretical expertise that employers value in graduates. These include technical, communication and design skills. You'll also have the chance to study with students on other construction-related MSc courses, preparing you for working in industry. A first or strong second class UK honours degree or internationally recognised equivalent in an engineering or science subject with a high level of structural analysis. Language requirements: IELTS 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each of the four components).

About this university
When attending the university from outside the UK, there is a variety of help and assistance available to students. This starts from the application process and goes right through the time spent at the university. There is practical help including how to accept the offer to attend the university and organising legal paperwork such as visas and immigration papers. There is also help with English language skills for those who donâ€™t speak the language and an international induction program to assist with integration within the city and area. There is even help with accommodation eligibility and student funding where needed as well as an airport collection service. The Student Union is recognised as one of the top organisations of its kind in the country and runs over 100 clubs from sports to arts, cultural and interest to faith societies. Notable among these are the Bath RAG, which raises money for local charities; the Arts Society that includes theatre, musicals, dance and other performance arts and three student media outlets. Sport plays a very important part of student life at the university and the sports are organised by TeamBath. It has one of the best sports facilities in the UK spread over three locations with two on Claverton Down and the third a few miles away in Combe Down. Facilities rank from fitness suites, squash courts, athletics tracks, basketball and badminton courts as well as centres for sports medicine and science.
