Our MA Film Production helps you develop your approach to film production workflows and technology whilst focusing on more creative areas such as screenwriting and directing.This course will help you develop your creative abilities to a high professional standard. We focus on practice-based research and film projects, preparing you for employment in the dynamic world of film production. You'll be taught in new film production facilities, with post-production suites, and learn to use standard digital film industry equipment including RED, Canon C300 and Arri Alexa systems.The MA route for this course includes courses on the critical and creative aspects of filmmaking, including cinematography, production practice, film research, screenwriting, and directing. An alternative MSc route explores more technical areas filmmaking, including production practice and editing. Optional courses cover topics including editing, emerging practices, and sound design.What you should know about this course

Requirements

Entry requirements

You should have a good undergraduate degree, typically at 2.1 or above, in a relevant subject. If you have a good honours degree in another discipline, we may consider your application if your profile and motivation indicate a substantial interest in the fields of media and creativity. You will need an open mind towards interdisciplinary work and you must be capable of theoretical and methodological rigour. You will need to provide a personal statement and academic/professional references indicating your suitability for the course. You should also consider areas of interest that you could explore during your studies, prior to attending an interview. You must provide a link to your online video show-reel or digital portfolio. For film professionals, we will consider five years' relevant professional experience in place of academic qualifications.

About this university

International students

There is a thriving international community at the university including students from over 100 countries around the world. The International Office is the first point of contact for these students and can help with a variety of matters around living in the UK. They help with the arrival in London while students get used to their new home and with daily life matters as well as academic ones. There are also language courses on offer for those wishing to learn or improve their English skills. At the heart of student life at the university is the Students Union and all students are automatically members. It offers a range of services to these members including academic and non-academic advice and support, representation and the organisation of various clubs and societies for extracurricular times. It also operates three different bars as well as a shop and an online shop for students. The university has a top record for its sports teams and there are a range of competitive and non-competitive activities on offer. Clubs take part in the BUCS leagues against other universities and colleges and range from cricket and football to netball and self-defence activities. Likewise the societies over all aspects of life including academic, activities and games, campaigning, cultural and performing arts as well as the chance to start their own should students find a niche.
