About this university
International students
There are various resources on offer for international students attending the University of Leeds to assist them during their studies and outside them. These start with legal matters such as visas and immigration paperwork as well as financial advice. There are also support services to help integrate with the larger community and information about what is needed when arriving to study. Most of this is available through the International Student Office who can also offer assistance for students bringing their families with them or who are seeking work between their studies. There are also special events such as the weekly Global Café and the annual World Unite Festival. The Leeds University Union is a member of the National Union of Students and is available to support students during their time at Leeds as well as organising societies and volunteer opportunities. It operates the University Refectory in the main campus, which, on a night, is transformed to a 2000 person venue for live events with big names such as The Who and Bob Marley having performed there. There are also two bars and a café operated by the union and three nightclubs. Student societies number around 250 and include a newspaper, TV station and radio station run by students along with a large number of sports, with these having a particularly highly reputation. There are also a number of intramural recreational sports and fitness classes available. Performing arts groups range from dance to performance and many others while there are faith and cultural groups for those with articular interests as well as political groups involved in various matters both nationally and internationally.
