About this university
International students
Students travel from around the world to study at Leicester and there is plenty of information and guidance on hand for them. the Student Support and Development Service (SSDS) operate a website that provides a great deal of information for students before they arrive and once they are in the country including on immigration and visas information, financial advice for their time at the university as well as help with living in the UK and integrating with the local community. The International Student Association provides information about the various events that are on offer for international students including annual and regular events, activities and even trips around the UK. These are aimed at helping students make the most of their time. There is also an English language teaching unit who offer courses for those to whom English isn't their first language. There are some 200 student organisations for those attending Leicester to get involved with outside the classroom. These include the student run newspaper and radio station. All are organised through the Student Union, which is also responsible for the organising of a number of annual events including a 24 hour charity broadcast at the radio station and its own awards, recognising the work in the student media. Other areas to get involved with include sports, charity and volunteering work and also in representation of fellow students in various matters as well as providing advice to others on certain subjects.
