Description

Our online learning MA in Educational Leadership in Practice caters to the training needs of professionals around the world, whether you're looking to enhance your skills in leadership within schools or further your career in this area. Successful leaders in education require a wide range of transferable skills and subject-specific knowledge in areas such as in education and social policy, leading organisational and educational change. At the start of your course in February, you'll have the chance to network with academics teaching the course, meet your peers and grow your network of global educational practitioners at a three-day conference in Manchester. The Master's teaching comprises of five core 20-credit units, one APL 20-credit unit or select an optional unit and a 60-credit research project. The five core 20-credit modules are:

  • Engaging with Educational Leadership Research
  • Leading Educational Change and Development
  • Education Leadership Policy
  • Educational Leadership as Social Practice
  • Models of Educational Leadership
  • Digital, Media and Information Literacy (optional)
  • Leading Learning (optional)
  • Additional Optional Unit (TBC)
A final supervised research project will allow you to deepen your knowledge and apply your skills by analysing real-world scenarios and addressing questions with practical implications. You will be taught by a team of academics who are renowned in their fields and that have several years of unique experience delivering course content both online and face-to-face within blended programmes. Our academics are on the cutting-edge of educational leadership in research, which informs their teaching. They've worked and led change in the education sector nationally in the UK and internationally. They regularly utilise our remarkably wide range of educational resources in their learning and teaching activities. Requirements

Entry requirements

A good honours degree (minimum 2:1) or the overseas equivalent, in a related area. An initial qualification in teaching, or at least one year's professional experience in a public or private educational organisation, are desirable but not essential requirements. Two satisfactory professional or academic references.

About this university

International students

Students attend the university from over 150 countries around the world and there are various systems in place to help them adapt to their new life. The Student Immigration Team is a dedicated team in place to help with support and advice regarding immigration and visas and are based at the Student Services Centre. The student support centre is a single contact point for all students to help with matters such as finances, examinations, graduation and other matters. There is also help and advice on hand for matter such as integration into the community, learning English and making the most of the time in the UK. The centre of student life is the Students Union (UMIST), which formed at the same time as the university was created in 2004. It is run by an eight-member team rather than a single president. The athletics Union is responsible for the sports clubs within the university and there are over 80 health and fitness classes in addition to 44 sports clubs. There are around 250 societies and clubs in total across many areas of interest including a student run newspaper, radio station, a fundraising organisation, a volunteer project and across the arts and politics arena.
