Description
Why choose this course Medical microbiology is essential – helping us to prevent, diagnose and treat infectious diseases. As the growth of antibiotic resistant microbes and the rise and fall of infectious diseases continues to be documented, you’ll be studying both a vital subject and an innovative course at a very important time. Our course offers the chance for you to do extensive research while also studying taught modules. It’s also an excellent route to further study, or work within research in either the public or private sector. You’ll also be able to work with internationally recognised research groups and be taught by leading experts. What you will study If you study medical microbiology at Surrey, we’ll teach you about the biological and pathogenic qualities of microbes. This includes microbes which are good for our health in addition to the study of microorganisms which create diseases. Immunology, or the study of our reactions to diseases, is another area of focus in our course. You will also study the detection, management and treatment of infectious diseases. We’re confident our course will develop you into a capable scientist and open new doors for you. To give one example, you’ll have an exciting chance to join a research group for your longer project which will be supported with modules in research methods, critical writing and journal clubs.

About this university
International students
Students travel from 120 different countries to study at the University of Surrey, making it one of the most culturally diverse education facilities in the UK. For these international students, the International Office is the base of information and assistance for their time in the UK and can help with a number of subjects and problems. This involved practical information about immigration and visas as well as programs to help non-English speaking students master the language. They can also help students organise their courses and any foundation year qualifications needed. Student life is organised through the Students’ Union that consists of departments representing students on academic and welfare issues as well as looking after sports clubs and societies. The union also organises a number of Balls during the year varying in formal dress and special occasions as well as special events during term time. There is even a Union nightclub called Rubix where up to 1600 students can meet up at one time and hosts a range of different guest acts and themed nights. There are over 100 clubs organised through the Students’ Union with everything from sports to TV and radio as well as working with a charity or being a volunteer. They can also assist students looking for something new to broaden their horizons and develop new skills.
