University of Winchester has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.

The Doctor of Education provides a structured route for doctoral study based on professional work and interests. There are two designated pathways: Leading Educational Practice in Professional Settings and Creative and Cultural Education.There are two designated pathways: Leading Educational Practice in Professional Settings and Creative and Cultural Education. Leading Educational Practice in Professional Settings is ideal for you if you are currently supporting the work of colleagues in an educational setting (for example, as a subject coordinator in a primary school; as head of department in a secondary school; or as a training manager in other professions or in business). It provides you with the opportunity to explore in-depth aspects of practice in your area of expertise, the management of change in practice, or managing the learning and development of colleagues.The Creative and Cultural Education pathway is ideal if you are currently engaged in education from a cultural perspective (such as religious education, personal and social education or community development) or in a creative aspect (for example, being engaged in music, art or drama education; museum education; or other education-based work in a non-school setting). It enables you to focus on an aspect of practice or learning in the creative mode, with other practitioners or with students of any age.

Normally a Masters degree in Education or a related discipline and relevant professional experience. Exceptionally, students might be admitted without the normal entry requirements, once they have demonstrated their ability at Level 7.

The university offers plenty of information for students travelling from outside the UK starting before they leave home. There is information by country for the application process as well as assistance with visas and immigration issues. There is even the opportunity to book a pick-up from the airport to ensure you arrive at the university without any problems. Winchester Student Union organises much of life outside the classroom for its students, all of whom are automatically members. This includes operating societies and sports clubs, a shop, bars as well as organising support for its members and providing representation. It is based within the University Centre and has a 850 seat venue with cinema, three bars and the shop. Regular events are held here including comedy nights. It also operates a number of student media opportunities including an online news outlet. In the societies and clubs area is something for all tastes. These run from various team sports as well as fitness activities and even martial arts clubs. There are dance and performance clubs to bring out a student's artistic side as well as music clubs and groups. There are international and culture groups to meet up with others from a similar background or learn about a new culture while the community volunteering groups allow students to give something back to the wider community. There are also opportunities to get involved with the running of the union, both organisational and with the representation of other students.
