Description

The Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice is a professional qualification for those who have a teaching role within a university or higher education context.It is a flexible, modular open-learning programme. Most of the modules are available in either: Blended Learning or Fully Online Learning modes of delivery. The PgCert consists of three 20-credit masters-level modules. The PgCert is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Participants, who meet the requirements, can apply for Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in line with UK Professional Standards Framework: Descriptor 2. Those successfully completing Module 1 can apply for Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), aligned to UK Professional Standards Framework: Descriptor 1.Graduates in the fields of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting may qualify to apply for a recordable teaching qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) providing they have met NMC requirements in terms of assessed teaching activity in both academic and practice settings, with students on NMC approved programmes.

Entry requirements

Appropriate Undergraduate Qualification: Degree level or equivalent. Other Required Qualifications/Experience: Applicants are required to have an ongoing teaching commitment at HE level (SCQF level 7 or above) to extend over the duration of the programme. This should normally be a minimum of 100 hours of teaching over the duration of the programme (33 hours for one module), of which at least half should be spent in direct teaching contact time.

International students

There are an average of over 1100 international students at the university each year from some 70 different countries. Country specific information can be found on the website. As well as all the information on the website to help them apply and settle in, these students can also make use of the International Student Support service, available to help with a range of academic and non-academic issues such as visas, immigration and financial matters as well as accessing health care. There are also English language programs to help those wanting to learn or improve their English skills. The Student Union is the heart of activities outside the classroom for the students and offers them support, advice and representation. It also operates a number of bars across the campuses screening major sports events as well as holding regular themed nights such as comedy and poker. There is a student run radio station also broadcasting 24 hours a day available online. There are a wide range of sports available through the union across the different sites. These make use of the Trust Sports Centre in Paisley and the Hamilton Leisure Centre in Hamilton as well as other facilities. They range from traditional sports such as football and rugby to newer sports such as basketball and snow sports into fitness and self-defence activities such as tae kwon do classes and volleyball.
