University of Chester has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
This course is designed to appeal to those interested in relating theological, ethical and spiritual insights and methods to their own professional or voluntary practice; it is part of a national consortium of higher education institutions including Anglia Ruskin, Birmingham and Manchester Universities, and is affiliated to the British and Irish Association of Practical Theology; participants are encouraged to use their professional, voluntary or ministerial practice as the foundation of a structured process of research in practical theology; this is a research degree; all the components are pursued as supervised independent study, supported by regular meetings with a nominated supervisor; in addition, participants attend 3 residential 48-hour seminars per year, which provide structured elements of research training.
Master's degree in Theology and Religious Studies or another related discipline. Candidates not possessing a Master's degree should have a 1st Class or 2.1 Honours Bachelor's degree and be able to give evidence of prior learning or experience equivalent to master's level study. Applicants who do not meet these requirements can be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Chester Student's Union is at the heart of extracurricular activities as well as supporting and representing the student body. The union operates a bar on the main campus as well as another in Warrington and three shops. There are also some 75 clubs and societies to get involves with. The sports clubs take part in the British Universities and Colleges Sports leagues as well as inter-campus competitions called Varsity. Away from sports, there are many interest based societies, arts and performance groups and even student media such as the radio station, known as Cat Radio, broadcasting daily from the Warrington campus.
