    History

De Montfort University (DMU) is a public research university in the city of Leicester in the Midlands of England. It began life as the Leicester School of Art, founded in 1870 then became the Leicester Colleges of Art and Technology in 1927. It became a university in 1992 and took its name from the 13th century Earl of Leicester Simon de Montfort who was known for establishing the first parliament in 1265.

    International students

The International Office is available for international students and covers areas such as recruitment and admissions. They are also available to offer advice on a wide range of subject, both in person and through an online chat option. They can offer assistance with matters such as visas advice and immigration matters as well as offering country specific information for students. There is also a Centre for English Language Learning within the university that offers lessons for students to whom English isn’t a first language. Some of these courses are even free of charge depending on what you are studying. The Campus Centre is home to the Student Union as well as a number of other student facilities and is at the heart of the campus. The three story, steel frame building was completed in 2003 as part of regeneration plans. As well as the union, it is home to student run media such as the radio station, TV station and newspaper as well as a food court and the lettings agency to help students find accommodation outside the campus. Another facility open to students is the Student Gateway, offering welfare and guidance on matters such as finance, jobs and careers, counselling and mental health issues. They are found within Gateway House. Outside the classroom, there is plenty to keep students active and occupied. There are 67 societies and clubs covering a range of subjects. There are 35 societies including arts, interest groups and volunteering opportunities while there are also 32 different sports to get involve with. These take part in the various university leagues around the country and involved competitive sports as well as recreational ones ranging from cricket and football to fencing and martial arts.

    Campus life

The main campus is close to the Leicester Castle area as well as the 15th century Magazine Gateway and contains a number of listing buildings. These include the Trinity House which contains 14th century areas while the Hawthorn Building has the ruins of a 14th century church within, said to have been the burial place of Richard II before he was moved to Greyfriars. The church forms part of the De Montfort University Heritage Centre, which is also used for student work. There are also a number of modern developments on the campus including the new Hugh Aston Building. The university has a total of nine halls of residence within a short distance of the main campus offering a total of 2300 rooms. Some are managed by the university itself while others are managed by private companies in association with the university. There are same gender or mixed gender flats available and all halls are self-catered. There are shared laundry facilities as well as internet access and an on-suite hall manager. Chart description

These charts show how many students from your university and others applied to the destination university/field of study. Students in the charts shown received offers that were either conditional on additional documentation or unconditional. Others had their applications rejected.

The results are only accurate for academic scores. We highly recommend receiving professional advice from one of our counsellors. Our free services ensure application documents are the best they can be. We estimate that doing so can boost your chance of admission by 5% to 20%.

Acceptance description

The "acceptance chance" is a weighted average of up to three partial scores regarding your academic score/GPA compared to:

  • The official requirements from the university
  • The minimum acceptable academic level according to our experienced counsellors
  • Previous applicants who received offers of admission

If your "chances" are 50%, then we estimate that one out of two people from your university with your academic result would be accepted.

Our algorithm gives a good estimation but focuses on academic scores only. Academic scores are not the only factor. Your language ability, work experience, and activities outside of the classroom will also play a role.

The search results presented are based on students who have received professional advice from one of our counsellors and used our services to ensure application documents are the best they can be. We estimate that using this free service can increase your chance of admission by 5% to 20%.
