This course provides advanced level knowledge and skills in the areas of Maritime Law and Commercial Law. Students will develop international and commercial perspectives on issues relating to Maritime Law, and will learn to operate with expertise in the multifaceted interface between the different areas of the field.Students will acquire a broad understanding of Maritime Law, including its fundamental principles and values, the influences upon it, the substantive rules of the discipline and the underpinning architecture and institutions; as well as an understanding of the different areas within the discipline, such as wet shipping law and dry shipping law. Critical awareness will be fostered by the study of the latest literature, international legislation, international conventions, EU law, and international case law.Course StructureSeptember intake: Taught modules are undertaken in the period of September to June and will involve the study of 120 credits. The dissertation (or equivalent) is valued at 60 credits and is undertaken during the period of June to September.January intake: Taught modules are undertaken in the period of January to June and September to January and will involve the study of 120 credits. We normally require a minimum of a 2(ii) degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Law, Business) from an approved University. Alternatively, possession of a suitable professional qualification or relevant practical experience may be accepted. In general, all applicants are judged on their individual merits. Work experience and other factors are also taken into consideration. International applicants are normally required to provide evidence of English language proficiency. The minimum English language requirements are normally: IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each individual component score ,Pearson PTE: a score of 62 (with no element lower than 58), Cambridge English Test: Advanced: 176 (with no element lower than 169).

The International Student Support Office is the first place for international students to contact when studying in Bangor. They are available to provide help and advice in a range of areas including immigration and visas as well as bringing family members to Wales while studying. They are based in the Rathbone Building on College Road. They also organised English Language Preparation Courses for students to whom English isnâ€™t a first language and range from general courses to pre-sessional and summer courses as well as those while students study. The website also provides information on a by-country basis to use before arriving in the country including entry requirements. The Student Union is responsible for the organisation of services and support for students outside the classroom and all students are automatically members. Included in the societies available to students are a number of volunteering opportunities including through Student Volunteering Bangor that has some 30 projects it is associated with as well as Bangor RAG. There are a total of 150 societies including academic and sports clubs with notable sports including the football and rowing clubs. Fun recreational sports such as canoe-polo and sub-aqua are also available for fitness fans. There are religious societies such as the Christian Union and the Islamic Society as well as hobbies and interest groups such as comedy, drama and photography. There is also a student run radio station called Storm FM. In addition, there is the Student Services department based in the Rathbone Building on College Road who are available to help with a wide range of issues such as financial assistance, careers advice and employment guidance.
