International students can refer to the International Office for a range of help and advice during their time in Cardiff. This office includes departments such as the admissions team to help with country specific information for students looking to apply to the university as well as the student support team. They are on hand to help with matters such as immigration and visas, financial guidance and help with accommodation. There are also English language resources to help those for whom the language isn’t their first through the English Language Training Centre. The Student Union is available to support students while studying at Cardiff as well as organising extra-curricular activities. There are a range of clubs and societies to get involved with while the union operates a facility called Centro on the Cyncoed campus and Zen on the Llandaff campus. Both of these offer a range of eating and drinking options and is a great place to meet up with friends. Of the different societies and clubs there are those covering nationality or belief including an Indian Society and a Christian Union as well as political and activist groups. There are plenty of recreational and hobby groups such as dance, drama or food societies and even ones covering certain subjects such as the Psychology Society, for those students who don’t get enough in the classroom! There is also the option to start a society of their own choosing with friends of a like-mind regarding a subject with £100 start-up funding to do so. Sports plays a particularly important role in the university in teaching and in extra-curricular activities. There are over 300 international performers from 30 different sports to have come through the university including seven captains of the Welsh rugby team. The university has access to the National Indoor Athletics Centre, which is also used for events such as the UK Open Tae kwon do Championships.
