Cardiff Metropolitan University has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
The principle aim of the programme is to prepare students for employment within the strength and conditioning industry. This is achieved through academic staff with both experience in the applied sector and currency of research within the strength and conditioning profession and related areas. The programme also benefits from many industry based visiting lecturers. This is the first programme of its kind to offer a dedicated internship module through which students can gain academic credits while undertaking work experience in a club structure, professional organisation or National Governing Body. The programme offers the following course specific compulsory modules:Strength and Conditioning: Science and ApplicationStrength and Conditioning: Theory to Practice Training Science
Applicants should normally have one of the following: An honours degree (2.1 or above) in a sport or exercise related area appropriate to the programme. An honours degree (2.1 or above) in an alternative discipline area that is acceptable to the Programme Director. Candidates with exceptional and extensive work experience in coaching, working within the health and fitness industry, sport science or exercise science will also be considered for entry to the programme For non UK applicants, the minimum IELTS English Language requirement for this programme is 6.5 or equivalent. Selection Procedure: Students are normally selected on the basis of their formal application, a CV and an interview.

International students can refer to the International Office for a range of help and advice during their time in Cardiff. This office includes departments such as the admissions team to help with country specific information for students looking to apply to the university as well as the student support team. They are on hand to help with matters such as immigration and visas, financial guidance and help with accommodation. There are also English language resources to help those for whom the language isnâ€™t their first through the English Language Training Centre. The Student Union is available to support students while studying at Cardiff as well as organising extra-curricular activities. There are a range of clubs and societies to get involved with while the union operates a facility called Centro on the Cyncoed campus and Zen on the Llandaff campus. Both of these offer a range of eating and drinking options and is a great place to meet up with friends. Of the different societies and clubs there are those covering nationality or belief including an Indian Society and a Christian Union as well as political and activist groups. There are plenty of recreational and hobby groups such as dance, drama or food societies and even ones covering certain subjects such as the Psychology Society, for those students who donâ€™t get enough in the classroom! There is also the option to start a society of their own choosing with friends of a like-mind regarding a subject with Â£100 start-up funding to do so. Sports plays a particularly important role in the university in teaching and in extra-curricular activities. There are over 300 international performers from 30 different sports to have come through the university including seven captains of the Welsh rugby team. The university has access to the National Indoor Athletics Centre, which is also used for events such as the UK Open Tae kwon do Championships.
