The MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management with Business Analytics is a brand new programme of study created by Heriot-Watt University to pass on cutting-edge expertise in Business Analytics and the use of Big Data whilst highlighting the role these disciplines play in developing effective and sustainable logistics and supply chain strategies. In recent years, the logistics and supply chain sectors have adopted an increasingly data-driven focus, leading to a greater demand for graduates who can solve complex logistics and supply chain problems through the effective analysis of data. As industry has become increasingly data-driven so too has the work of Heriot-Watt University's Logistics Faculty whose most recent research has resulted in significant advances in knowledge. Specifically, our academics have led the way in using data analytics and modelling techniques to develop logistics and supply chain solutions for in both public and private sector organisations.The research of the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight, conducted in partnership with the University of Cambridge, aims to reduce the environmental impact of road freight and make it more cost-effective for some of the United Kingdom's biggest organisations. This ensures that the big data and business analysis skills taught on this programme are highly applicable to the current needs of industry, having emerged directly from research which strives to find real-world solutions. By incorporating this research-based knowledge in two new courses, MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management with Business Analytics will equip you with the analytical tools and techniques expected of graduates in the fast evolving logistics and supply chain sectors. Through the completion of six further courses, developed over 25 years within our established suite of masters degrees in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, you will gain extensive knowledge in the current concepts, theories and practices of logistics and supply chain management. This combination of learning will provide you with the ability to make evidence-based management decisions through the sound analysis and interpretation of quantitative data related to logistics and supply chain management.Specialist Courses in Business Analytics and Big Data AnalyticsThe Programme structure for MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management with Business Analytics includes two new courses in big data analytics and business analytics, both of which draw on the cutting-edge expertise developed recently in Heriot-Watt University's Logistics Research Centre. Business AnalyticsThis new course in Business Analytics will teach you how to use a wide range of analytical tools and techniques to solve real business problems and improve business performance. Increasingly employers expect management graduates to have practical data analysis skills to support decision-making in business.Big Data AnalyticsHeriot-Watt University's Big Data Analytics course will give you the quantitative skills to extract, analyse and interpret information from large data sources. Real-world case studies will provide you with insights into how multiple advanced data analytics tools and techniques can be used to solve complex logistics and supply chain management problems.An MSc with industry demandThis specialist Masters degree in Logistics will allow you to tap into our knowledge in big data and business analytics whilst developing a complementary skill-set in logistics and supply chain management. Around 11,000 students travel from around 150 countries across the world to study at the university and the International Students Advisors Office or ISAO is available to assist them. They can provide help and support on everything from immigration to welfare as well as having connections across departments such as Student Support and the University Chaplaincy. They are based within the Hugh Nisbet Building on the Edinburgh campus. They can also provide help with practical matters concerning living in the UK as well as assistance for those wanting to bring their families with them to the university and accessing healthcare while here. The Student Association is the student-led organisation representing the students at both local and national level and is a member of the Edinburgh Students Forum and the National Union of Students. It was founded as the Students Representative Council in 1929 and it runs the Student Union as well as operates support for the 50 societies and clubs available to students. It also operates a number of services across the other campuses including catering, a nightclub, an advice centre and a shop. In addition, there are some 30 different sports clubs on offer and a number of annual events relating to the teams. There are also a number of events held during the year including for families and friends to visit the university and groups visits for schools and colleges.
