Keele University has opted into the TEF and received a Gold award.

Music research at Keele has 2 main themes: music technology and musicology. Music technology comprises composers working with digital media in composition for purely acoustic and mixed resources, audiovisual composition, algorithmic composition, theory and aesthetics, and music software development. The musicology research group focuses primarily on music since 1900. Specific member interests include French, Polish and German music, analysis, critical theory, cultural history, and film music.

Students travel from around the world to study at the university and there are various resources on hand to help them adjust. Within Student Services Centre is the International Students department, on hand to help with matters including immigration and visas, money and financial advice as well as learning English. This is ideal for students to whom English isn’t a first language and helps with studies but also with enjoying the larger community around Staffordshire. There is also advice and help for wellbeing issues such as nutrition and exercise, mental health and medical issues. The heart of student life outside the classroom is the Keele University Students Union. As well as being responsible for various clubs and societies it also organises a number of social events during the year and runs several bars, a restaurant and organises a farmer’s market on a Tuesday. There is student advice and help services within the union and it also operates its own magazine. There are also various student support services available including help with careers and employability, health and wellbeing matters and even money advice as well as general support and guidance. They can even assist with courses and study issues. At one time, the university was known for its left-wing political views but today there is a much wider scope on offer for students. These include the student radio station and a vast number of different sports. These range from rugby to dodgeball and make use of one of the largest dry leisure complexes in the county. There are two national standard sports halls as well as a gymnasium, fitness centre, dance studio and even a climbing wall.
