Students from over 100 countries travel to Liverpool to study at LJMU. Therefore, the university operates a dedicated International Student Advisers system where students have access to an experienced team to assist them. The team are available for matters such as visas and immigration advice, accommodation assistance, help with financial concerns and the various support needed when living in a new country. They also organise English language workshops and study support to help those to whom English isn't a first language. Student representation is provided by the Liverpool Students Union. It operates cross five different sites with the main one being in the John Foster Building. They are responsible for the organisation of around 48 clubs and societies as well as the sports clubs. These range from volunteering work to interest and cultural groups as well as arts such as the dance or drama societies. The university has 36 sports teams from football, rugby and cricket to volleyball and American football. Most of the teams take part in the BUSC leagues as well as various intramural events. The teams have a very good record for winning championships and other awards. Sports facilities on offer include a large sport hall, gymnasium, hockey astropitches, football pitches, badminton, basketball and tennis courts as well as dance studios and a climbing wall. Most of these facilities are on the IM Marsh campus.
