University of Birmingham has opted into the TEF and received a Gold award.
This programme comprises a combination of academic teaching, research and research training, and professional training during clinical placements; students complete 5 placements in a range of health settings in the West Midlands; the course encourages an attitude of critical open-mindedness to a range of theories and models with an emphasis on the importance of evidence-based practice and reflection on clinical work. The programme is organised on a collaborative basis with local NHS psychologists, and many local clinicians are involved in teaching.
1st class degree; a high 2.1 (ie a GPA of 65 or above); or if a lower 2.1, a clinically relevant Masters degree in addition. The candidate must also have 1 year full-time clinically relevant experience such that he/she can demonstrate to have been either applying psychological principles in a clinical setting or engaged in research that is relevant to a clinical population (e.g. as a research assistant or as part of a 3 year PhD). The experience could be spread across 2 years but must equate to 1 year full-time. Mature candidates with relevant professional backgrounds and qualifications will be considered on an individual basis. Candidates must also have Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society.

The International Students Advisory Service (ISAS) is available for all international students attending the university to provide support and advice across a number of areas. These include matters such as visas and immigration, living and working in the UK and workshops for students outside the classroom. They are also available to help with matters such as students bringing families with them and organising social events around the country to make the most of their time in Birmingham. The University of Birmingham Guild of Students is the students union of the university, which has its origins in the guild of undergraduates dating back to the 1870s. It supports some 180 clubs and societies across a range of subjects and interests from sports and arts to volunteering as well as representing students in various ways.
