Architecture (RIBA part 2)

University of Brighton has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.

The Master of Architecture (MArch) RIBA Part II course is a highly creative, research-led and professional two-year masters rooted in studio laboratories and driven by individual enquiry. The MArch course is prescribed by the ARB and validated by RIBA, giving exemption from RIBA Part II.We are part of the vibrant range of arts and humanities courses that the university has to offer. Our distinct research-led approach filters through all aspects of this course, with rigorous inquiry fusing innovation, regulation and social commentary. This student-focused approach offers the opportunity for you to investigate your personal architectural agenda, developing your own critical position and design language prior to entry into the profession.The studio laboratories are driven by tutors' personal research agendas and all staff are actively engaged within this field of enquiry as academics or practitioners. The stimulating mix of practitioners and academics across the course builds conversations, with visiting lecturers and critics further feeding the dialogue. Recent visiting lecturers have included Neil Denari, Perry Kulper, Chris Thurlbourne, Michael Jemtrud, and our close links with practice ensure stimulating review panels. There is plenty of information to help with an application to the university via the website. Once students are ready to come to Brighton there is help and advice about matters such as immigration and visas, financial guidance and help finding accommodation. When arriving, there is a week long orientation programme that is a great way to introduce students to the area and the university as well as helping with issues such as using the National Health Service and finding work between classes – and of course, dealing with the weather! The student union is the best way to get involved with the many activities taking place outside the classroom at Brighton. The union is run by students for students and can offer a range of help and advice as well as organising the numerous sports clubs and interest societies available. It also organises events such as the Freshers and Welcome events, operates a number of bars on all of the campuses as well as nightclub events and special outings such as the Eastbourne Garden Party. The students union operate seven buildings across the five campuses including five student union shops supplying a range of essentials as well as reception areas where students can meet up. These are also the place to find out about the societies or volunteering opportunities as well as getting tickets to events.
