LLM International Oil and Gas Law and Policy

University of Dundee has opted into the TEF and received a Gold award.

In this course you will learn how governments regulate the oil industry. You will study the rules and regulations set out by producer governments dealing with oil and gas investors, and how the concerns of investors are dealt with.You'll examine the nature of the right to petroleum in the ground onshore and offshore, and the different ways in which governments can transfer or share the petroleum right with investors.You will also learn about:

• comparing the legal structure of each transfer and its practical result
• risk sharing mechanisms amongst investors
• how a government enforces its policy goals: depletion, safety, and environmental protection
• the contractual matrix surrounding oil and gas production projects
• the tax structures for resource and corporate taxes
• the fundamentals of petroleum economics and the influence of changing oil prices
• the nature of decommissioning installations and paying for decommissioning

You do not need to be a lawyer to take this course.CEPMLP has been a global voice of energy law and policy since 1977. We are now working towards the transition to low-carbon economies worldwide. With over 6,000 postgraduate alumni from more than 50 countries, we prepare our graduates for high-;profile careers in the public and private sectors.

For students travelling from outside the UK, the International Advice Service is available to help them with all aspects of the transition. They offer confidential advice and help on matters such as immigration and visas, working during and after studies as well as community group information and links to international hospitality schemes. There is support for international families as well as arranging cultural and social events during the year aimed primarily at international students. They are based in the Enquiry Centre on Campus Green or via email. Students are represented by the University's Student Representative Council while the Students Association organises the societies, clubs and organisations outside the classroom. It is unusual because it isn't a member of the National Union of Students due to cost and political considerations. The union is based in Airlie Place, at the centre of the main campus and has a bar, nightclub and refectory on site. There are 42 clubs associated with the Sports Union at the university and these have annual award ceremonies as well as an annual Ball. A multi-million pound redevelopment saw a number of new facilities for sports around the university including the first UK gym with mp3/mp4 compatible personal viewing screens.
