This is for you if you want a globally recognised qualification in your chosen field while having the freedom and flexibility to explore other areas of law.This stream of the LLM in Law is the ideal grounding if you wish to work in organisations related to this field. With our innovative course design, this course would suit students without a law background and provide you with an in-depth and critical understanding of public international law. You will be able to tailor the course to suit your needs by choosing from a broad range of subjects including law of armed conflict, law of United Nations, international environmental law, international migration law, international criminal law, human rights and international finance law.You will develop your ability to think both analytically and critically through our strong emphasis on independent study research. Our seminar-based teaching will focus on discussion and debate and will ensure you have the opportunity to develop your oral presentation skills. You will be assessed primarily through coursework and a final dissertation which will equip you with advanced skills in time management, written communication, planning and self-directed study.The Public International Law LLM stream provides an outstanding foundation for you to further enhance your career in institutions related to public international law or within governmental and non-governmental organisations.When you apply for this course, you will apply for the Master of Laws LLM. Once you have arrived in Leicester, you will be able to specialise in Public International Law through your module choices. Your degree certificate will reflect your chosen specialism.
A good second class degree or an equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline. Relevant professional experience post-graduation is given due credit in considering entry requirements. IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with 6.0 in writing and nothing less than 5.5. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.

Students travel from around the world to study at Leicester and there is plenty of information and guidance on hand for them. the Student Support and Development Service (SSDS) operate a website that provides a great deal of information for students before they arrive and once they are in the country including on immigration and visas information, financial advice for their time at the university as well as help with living in the UK and integrating with the local community. The International Student Association provides information about the various events that are on offer for international students including annual and regular events, activities and even trips around the UK. These are aimed at helping students make the most of their time. There is also an English language teaching unit who offer courses for those to whom English isn't their first language. There are some 200 student organisations for those attending Leicester to get involved with outside the classroom. These include the student run newspaper and radio station. All are organised through the Student Union, which is also responsible for the organising of a number of annual events including a 24 hour charity broadcast at the radio station and its own awards, recognising the work in the student media. Other areas to get involved with include sports, charity and volunteering work and also in representation of fellow students in various matters as well as providing advice to others on certain subjects.
