University of Chester

The University of Chester is a public university located in the city of Chester, in the north-west of England. It can trace its roots back to the Chester Diocesan Training College, founded in 1839, then became a part of the University of Liverpool in 1921. It continued to expand and was given full university status in 2007. It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Cathedrals Group and Universities UK.

There are an average of 130 countries represented among the student body at Chester and there are country specific information portals on the website to begin the process of applying to one of its courses. There is also help and advice on hand to assist those from outside the UK in adapting to their new home, ranging from immigration and visas advice to financial guidance, help with finding part time work and accommodation assistance. Chester Student's Union is at the heart of extracurricular activities as well as supporting and representing the student body. The union operates a bar on the main campus as well as another in Warrington and three shops. There are also some 75 clubs and societies to get involves with. The sports clubs take part in the British Universities and Colleges Sports leagues as well as inter-campus competitions called Varsity. Away from sports, there are many interest based societies, arts and performance groups and even student media such as the radio station, known as Cat Radio, broadcasting daily from the Warrington campus.

The university has five main campuses spread around the area. The main campus in the city is on Parkgate Road to the north of the City Walls and is in interesting mixture of Victorian buildings alongside modern ones such as the Student Union building. There are also sports halls, a swimming pool, fitness centre and various labs. Some departments have their own off campus buildings such as the Department of English, found in a former vicarage on Liverpool Road. The former County Hall is a recent addition to the university and now houses the Faculty of Education and Childre's Services as well as the Faculty of Health and Social Care, now referred to as the Riverside Campus. The Kingsway campus has a three storey teaching block and exhibition space and is home to the Faculty of Arts and Media. There is also a small Warrington campus that was originally a base for the Canadian military in World War II and now has various departments based there as well as being a training ground for the Warrington Wolves rugby team. There is a range of accommodation options for students across Chester and Warrington so there is choices available depending on where students want to live and what they can afford. On the Chester campus there are self catering, semi self-catering and full board options with similar options available at Warrington. There are also postgraduate accommodation options and those for nurses and medical students. In addition, the university also has connections with a number of approved private accommodation outlets that can help students who want to live away from campus or find they have missed out on a university room.
